Short CV:

Michael Vrahnakis is the Head of the Dept of Forestry and Management of Natural Environment in the TEI of Thessaly. He was born in Chania (Crete island) in 1964. He graduated the Department of Forestry and Natural Environment of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) in 1988. He holds the Ph.D. degree from the same Department (2000) in the topic of Rangeland Science. He worked as laboratory and scientific assistant for teaching purposes in the Departments of Forestry and Management of Natural Environment of TEI of Kavala, Lamia, and Larissa (1996 2008). Currently, he is associate professor in the TEI of Thessaly (August 2013). He has published more than 60 research papers in peer reviewed national and international journals and conferences. His published work has met more than 110 citations. He is referee in 5 international and 1 national research journals. He has been involved in 17 national and international research projects, and for these purposes he has been collaborated with the Laboratory of Rangeland Ecology (AUTh), the Forest Research Institute (Thessaloniki), the Depts of Forestry & MNE of TEI of Lamia and Kavala and many other national and EU institutions. He has supervised 4 research projects (2009 2014), and he has accompished more than 20 Management Plans of Protected Areas. He elected member of the Administrative Committee of the Hellenic Rangeland and Pasture Society ( (Cashier 2001-2002, vice-President 2009-2010), General Secretary (2011-2012). He elected member of the Greek Agroforestry Network ( He is member of the 6-chaired Executive Committee of the European Dry Grassland Group (EDGG, having responsibility, among others, the supervision of its Mediterranean sub-group (Med-DG) and the coordination of its bienial international conferences.
